The Baggett Migration

The name Baggett comes from the French word Bagnette , which means “a stay or walking staff, a gunstick or a drumstick.” It was translated into the Welsh as Bagad and further corrupted into Bagot , Baggott , and finally into the familiar Baggett.   It is tradition that the first immigrant to settle in the Colonies was Nicholas Bagget Sr., who came in about 1680, landing in Jamestown, Virginia.  He is thought to have come from Wales.
