They were farmers in Spencer County until relocating to Warrick County , Indiana in 1830 where they continued to farm for the next ten years.

From Warrick County , they moved on to Taney County , Missouri , arriving in 1841. They were among the pioneers to settle this part of Missouri . This area of the Ozarks is well known today for tourist attractions, with Branson, Silver Dollar City, Shepherd of the Hills, and Bull Shoals Recreation area being in the vicinity.

Taney County was formed in 1837, and would later be divided to form; Ozark County , in 1841, and later; Douglas County in 1857. To further complicate the geography of this area, the Wright farm was in Campbell Township , Taney County until 1864 when this small township was annexed into Douglas County . The Joseph Carter Wright farm and mill (if it still existed) would now be located on Beaver Creek, near the abandoned village of Rome in Douglas County , very near the town of Ava , Missouri .
